Background & Rationale:
|
During inspections related to upcoming potential bond projects a significant issue was discovered in the rear stage wall of SHS auditorium.
Investigation by Hollis and Miller determined that over the last 3 to 5 years, roof leaks have allowed water to infiltrate the wall of stage. The water, through pressure and freeze/thaw has pushed the wall away from the roof and structure and will continue to do so even if the water leaks are repaired unless further wall repair is completed.
We have notified our insurance carrier, who is also assessing for any potential reimbursement.
The wall is not currently a safety issue, but will become one if not addressed soon.
As a result of this assessment, we put out an RFP to take the wall down and replace it. This will be a significant project and take approximately 4 months to complete. It requires the closure of the auditorium and classrooms on the other side of the wall such as the little theater. Work is scheduled to begin at the start of spring break. Estimated completion will occur by August 1, 2019.

I move that the Board of Education approve the renovation of the RSHS stage wall at a cost not to exceed $858,000, plus a 15% contingency of $128,700 for a total potential cost of $986,700.
